Disco Glam Theme Dinner

When Boon Creative Productions was given the task to do the second Gleneagles Kota Kinabalu Grand Appreciation Dinner on 13 April 2019, we knew that it was not going to be easy following last year’s highly successful event. We had to raise the bar and push ourselves to meet higher expectations of our client and their guests.

Disco Glam Theme was conceptualized because firstly, we feel that we must have content that the local audience can connect with. And what can be more exciting than the 70s and 80s! While there has been countless Retro-themed parties, we wanted this to be different. It was not going to be just another party with only John Travolta dance moves, bellbottoms and afro wigs.

Part of our inspiration came from Studio 54 (the most famous and glitzy nightclub in New York in the 70s patronized by A-list stars) – hence the word “Glam” in the theme and this was reflected in lighting design, décor and styling of performers.

Secondly, we wanted to deliver a power-packed evening with non-stop entertainment that would blow guests away from the beginning to the end! The evening kicked off with the classic ‘Dancing Queen’ by Abba presented in a Studio 54 style followed by a Bruno Mars retro number reminiscent of beats and dance moves from Earth, Wind & Fire!

To bring the evening to a higher level, we had hand-picked Sabah Powerhouse Esther Applunius to deliver an explosive highlight show designed and produced by Boon Creative Productions from scratch. For her performance, we took our inspiration from Whitney Houston, Amy Winehouse and Hong Kong rock band, Beyond

We combined Disco & Rock in the final set, and each act was designed in the most detailed way - from screen content to costume, hair and make-up to lighting. All were meticulously planned so that we could put a Raw and Edgy touch to this theme.

When it comes to the 70s and 80s, music legends such as Tina Turner and Freddie Mercury are our biggest inspiration. And with these acts lined up and superb, world-class entertainment staged, we brought the house down!

Since then, the event has become the talk of the town. And Boon Creative Productions received numerous praises and compliments! We cannot be more grateful for this amazing opportunity from our client Gleneagles Kota Kinabalu Hospital for us to showcase our creativity, talents and skills. It was also such a great opportunity for all our local artistes and it brought out the best in them. It was a dream come true for all of us! Once again, thank you
